Many Volvo vehicles shipped with the radio code written in the owner’s handbook, either on the radio section page or on a separate card in the document wallet. Check both before removing the radio.
Remove the radio from the centre console. The serial label is on the top or side of the unit in the format VO652FA9008799. Enter the full serial including the leading VO.
On S60, V70, XC90 and S80 fitted with the Volvo HU-series head unit: press and hold the INFO button for 5–10 seconds to reveal the serial number on the display.
Call Volvo Cars customer service with your VIN, registration, and proof of ownership. They can retrieve the radio code from their central database at no charge.

Switch on the radio. When it asks for the code, use the station preset buttons (1–4 on most Volvo units) to enter each digit. Press the SEEK or SCAN button to confirm once all four digits are entered.
SAFE means the anti-theft lock is active. This is normal after a power interruption. Switch on the radio and enter the 4-digit code using the preset buttons. If you see SAFE 10, the radio has been locked after 10 failed attempts — you must visit a Volvo dealer for an EEPROM read.
Some Volvo P2 models were fitted with non-Volvo branded Clarion or Philips units. Check the brand printed on the front of the radio. If it says Clarion or Philips, use the main calculator and select the appropriate brand.
On most HU-650, HU-803, HU-850, and HU-870 units you can press INFO + SEEK simultaneously for 5 seconds to display the serial. If that doesn’t work on your specific unit, removing the radio is the most reliable method.
